Rules for women are quite similar to men except for a few rules, including clothes-wearing. These rules are made to create an appropriate environment for women while they are appearing for the ritual act of Umrah. Women should follow these Umrah rules for ladies, so they can perform all rituals in a more graceful way.

What is Tawaf? How to Perform Tawaf for Women?

Tawaf is an obligatory act of Umrah that shows the unity of all Muslims who circumambulate around the Kaaba. The Performance of Umrah as women indicates reverence and deep respect for the Kaaba. It includes certain steps to attain the execution of Tawaf, including entering the sacred mosque, starting the Tawaf, and circling seven times around the mosque in a modest way. Tawaf is considered a pillar of Umrah. The following are certain Umrah rules for ladies to follow during Tawaf:’

  • Women should avoid Tawaf during menstruation.
  • Wudu is necessary to offer Tawaaf around the Kaaba.
  • Wear modest clothes while doing Tawaf.
  • Avoid mixing with men while doing Tawaf.
  • Make specific dua during Tawaf.

Steps of Sa’i

Sa’i is an obligatory act performed in remembrance of Hazrat Hajra’s search for water for his son. It is basically walking between two historically famous mountains in the perspective of Islam named Safa and Marwa. This act shows perseverance, hope, faith, and trust in Allah. It starts from Safa, walks in between these mountains seven times, and asks for specific Duas.

  • Start at Safa: This sacred walking starts from a mountain named Safa, a mountain located in Makkah. And it is significant for the incident of Hazrat Hajra and his son Hazrat Ismail.
  • Walk Seven Times: People repeat this sacred walk seven times between Safa and Marwa.
  • Specific Duas: This ritual back-and-forth walking endures specific duas and repentance words.

Prayers and Worship in Masjid al-Haram

  • Women’s Prayer Areas: Isolated prayer areas for women maintain privacy for women.
  • Prayer Etiquette for Women: Women should follow the decorum of offering prayer during Umrah rituals. Such as she should wear loose-fitting clothes, be in Wudu, face Qibla, and maintain focus while offering prayer. And women should take care of menstruation. As she should not offer worship while she is menstruating. 

Maintaining Modesty

  • Modesty at All Times: Modesty is like an ornament for women. So women should adopt modesty throughout offering all rituals of Umrah.
  • Behavior and Interaction with Men: Women should avoid gatherings and mixing with other men while performing Tawaf and other rituals of Umrah. 

Shaving or Trimming Hair

After completing Sai, women should trim a few inches of hair during Halq. This is symbolic trimming of hair that only shows completion of Umrah.

Safety and Health Considerations

  • Safety in Crowds: Women should maintain their privacy in crowds and maintain spacing with men. Also, take care of your baggage.
  • Health and Hydration: Hydrate well in heat waves of the Saudi state while offering Umrah. And maintain your health by carrying enough and needed medicines with you. 

Rights of Women During Umrah

Women have equal access to the Haram, separate designated space, and the right to seek knowledge from this sacred place during the performance of Umrah.

Common Mistakes to Avoid for Women during Umrah

  • Mistakes in Ihram Dress: Women should wear modest and loose-fitting clothes. Some women wear tight clothes that are not encouraged clothes.
  • Not Taking Care of Menstruation: During menstruation, women should not perform Tawaf around the Kaaba.
  • Distractions during Worship: Messing with crowds and overuse of mobile phones are considered distractions during worship.
